Last January 11 and 12 Parola staff and the social worker of Payatas attended a two-day seminar about water, sanitation and hygiene at International Container Transport Services Inc. Foundation (ICTSIF) Multi-purpose hall at ECJ building Intramuros Manila. The said seminar was organized and attended by the members of Parola Inter Agency Network (PIAN), which is the collaboration of different organizations working in Parola, Tondo, Manila in different fields. The 2 days event was given and facilitated by Samaritan’s Purse International Relief, an evangelical Christian organization that provides aid to people in physical need. They also give assistance and series of formations about proper sanitation.
The seminar aims to reduce the public health risk due to open defection, improper storing and unhealthy source of water. The objectives of the seminar were anchored to the Sustainable Development Goals 2030 of United Nation: “Transforming our world” which composed of 17 sub-goals.
A lot of topics were discussed in the seminar such as the WASH Governance in which the topic shows on how to implement the program by tapping the organizations that may help you or may become your beneficiaries. Another is the scope of WASH program, the speaker divided the topic into three and discussed it one-by-one. They even show to the participants the percentages of the people who died everyday due to the illnesses that brought by the improper sanitation and using contaminated water. The seminar also taught the participants the proper storing of water and proper treatment of contaminated water.
All the participants seen the importance of the training and well-motivated to apply what they had learned in the event. The participants were given certificates that prove of their capability to implement the WASH program in their own area.
